What goes best with Girl Scout Cookies? Dane County milk! And, thanks to a collaboration between Girl Scouts of Wisconsin – Badgerland and the Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee, area food pantries are getting lots of each!
During the 2017 Girl Scout Cookie Program, Dane County troops were invited to donate extra boxes of cookies to area food pantries. For every box of cookies the Girl Scouts donated, the Dairy Promotion Committee offered to donate one gallon of milk up to $5,000 in value. The Girl Scout troops answered the call to action! One hundred forty-seven Girl Scout troops donated 4,615 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to 23 food pantries throughout Dane County. That means that there will be 2,617 additional gallons of milk for families in need in our community thanks to Girl Scouts and Dane County dairy farmers.
“Community service and making the world a better place is an important part of being a Girl Scout,” said Marci Henderson, CEO, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin – Badgerland. “We’re excited to be partnering with the Dane Country Dairy Promotion Committee to give Girl Scouts this opportunity to help their community in a significant way.”
Pat O’Brien, Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee president, echoed those thoughts. “We’re thrilled with this opportunity to work with the Girl Scouts and provide wholesome, nutritious milk for Dane County families,” he said.
The thousands of boxes of cookies that were donated to Dane County
food banks were purchased by customers who supported Girl Scouts
during the Cookie Program in February and March.
