Girl Scouts will:
-Challenge themselves on the real rock cliffs of Devil's Lake.
-Practice creative problem solving while cheering on your fellow Girl Scouts
-Connect with nature in a supportive learning environment
-Learn the basics of climbing safety systems and how to conduct routine safety checks
Devil's Lake Climbing Guides' team of certified instructors will set up anchors and ropes, provide harnesses, helmets, and climbing shoes for anyone who needs them, and provide instruction as needed on belaying, climbing technique, knots, technical topics, Leave No Trace, and more.
Parent chaperones may join to watch, but must sign a waiver, wear a climbing helmet (DLCG can provide), and comply with instructor guidance. Please indicate if a parent plans to attend upon enrollment.
Prerequisites: No prior climbing experience needed!
***Must be able to hike approximately 20 minutes up steep grade with big, blocky stone steps and navigate in uneven terrain. ***
Bring:
-Closed-toed hiking shoes
-Backpack (20-30 liters). Please no drawstring bags
-Lunch/snacks
-2+ liters of water
-Layers appropriate for the weather
-Personal care supplies: sunscreen, bug spray, bathroom supplies, medications
***Please arrive 15 minutes early to check-in***
