Build confidence in the foundational skills used to lead troop camping and outdoor experiences. Through hands-on practice, adult volunteers will explore outdoor cooking, knife safety, knot tying, campcraft, first aid kit preparation, land navigation, and outdoor risk management. Lunch is included and will be prepared as part of the outdoor cooking experience.

 

Participants will:

Build confidence in foundational outdoor skills used in troop camping and outdoor adventures

Practice hands-on skills including outdoor cooking, knife safety, knot tying, first aid kits, and land navigation

Connect with fellow volunteers while learning practical techniques to bring back to their troops

 

Campowerment is back with a renewed focus on practical outdoor skills and volunteer confidence.

 

Whether you are new to outdoor experiences or want to strengthen your existing skills, Outdoor Skills I: Foundations offers hands-on training designed for Girl Scout volunteers. Through guided instruction and active practice, participants will build the knowledge and confidence needed to support safe, engaging outdoor experiences with their troops.

 

Topics may include:

Outdoor cooking techniques

Knife safety and basic knife skills

Knot tying and rope basics

Orienteering and land navigation

Camp setup and campcraft

First aid kit planning and preparation

Outdoor risk management

Additional foundational outdoor skills

 

Lunch is included and prepared as part of the outdoor cooking experience.

 

Outdoor Skills I and Outdoor Skills II are complementary learning opportunities. Participants are welcome to attend either session independently based on their experience level and interests; attendance at Outdoor Skills I is not required before participating in Outdoor Skills II.

 

Optional overnight opportunities may be available for participants who wish to extend their camp experience. Details will be shared as plans are finalized.

 

Participants may also choose to register separately for CPR/First Aid/AED certification training offered the following day.

 

Logistical Details

Open to all registered adult members.

Lunch included.

Outdoor program held rain or shine unless severe weather conditions exist.

Participants should dress for the weather and be prepared for active outdoor learning.

Additional packing lists and arrival information will be shared with registered participants the week of the event.
