After three incredible years of lighting up our campfire withjoy and inspiration, we’re bidding a heartfelt farewell to Bill Pierro—known fondly as “Wild Thing” around Camp Ehawee. Bill has been more than just our Camp Director; he’s been a friend, a mentor, and a true trail guide through every adventure. As he heads off to new outdoor escapades, we want to celebrate the amazing impact he’s made on our camp community.
Since taking the reins as Camp Director, filled Camp Ehawee with warmth, wisdom, and a spark that’s left an unforgettable glow. Reflecting on his time here, Bill describes it as “deeply fulfilling and transformative.” He’s had the privilege of seeing campers find their footing, tackle new challenges, and reach new heights.
“Watching campers grow in confidence and develop new skills has been the highlight of my time here,” Bill shared. Under his guidance, every summer has been a journey of growth, filled with campfire stories, trailblazing achievements, and unforgettable moments.
For the hundreds of campers who spent their summers with “Wild Thing,” Bill was always there, ready with an encouraging word and an infectious laugh. Whether leading a hike, guiding you through a badge, or cheering you on at the archery range, Bill made each moment feel like an adventure. “You’ve inspired me every day with your enthusiasm, curiosity, and courage,” he says. “Keep being brave, stay open to new adventures, and remember that you’re capable of more than you think.”
To the counselors, Bill’s gratitude is boundless. He describes you as “the backbone of our camp community” and deeply appreciates the dedication, creativity, and compassion you brought to each day at Camp Ehawee. “Continue leading with your hearts and know that the work you do has a lasting impact,” he says. Bill saw how you helped create a true haven under the stars, making Ehawee a true home away from home for every camper.
For any new campers feeling a bit nervous, Bill has a few words of encouragement: Embrace it! “Everyone feels a little anxious about trying something new, but that’s where the best adventures start,” he shares. For all you future campers out there, remember that camp is a place where it’s okay to be yourself, and there’s always someone to help you along the way.
In true “Wild Thing” fashion, Bill leaves us with this bit of parting advice:
Thank you, Bill, for all the light you've brought to Camp Ehawee. We’re so grateful for your passion, leadership, and kindness, which have left an indelible mark on the camp and on each of us. We wish you all the best on the trail ahead, and remember—you’ll always be part of the Badgerland family.
