Since 1951, Camp Ehawee has been the heart and soul of countless Girl Scout memories, offering a traditional summer camp experience beneath its iconic pine trees. This beloved camp has provided a place for fun and adventure but also a sanctuary where lifelong friendships and memories blossom year after year.
Girl Scout alum, Carolyn Peterson recently shared memories and treasures from her time there in 1960. Carolyn was an active member of Troop 147 and especially enjoyed cooking over campfires. She has even kept her certificate for completing the Outdoor Cook badge! During a recent trip down memory lane, Carolyn connected with Badgerland Council and said, "I'm so happy to hear the camp is still in existence. It was so much fun for me and my friends." Among her cherished mementos are a (now vintage) Camp Ehawee charm bracelet, pennant flag, and iconic summer camp patch. Carolyn's nostalgia for "her" Girl Scout camp is a testament and powerful reminder of the lasting impact that Camp Ehawee has had on generations of girls.
The journey of Camp Ehawee began in 1951 when the Riverland Council, now known as Badgerland, purchased a retired pine tree farm. However, the transformation into the camp we know today required significant funds. Local Girl Scouts demonstrated their determination to help fund their camp by selling 12,951 boxes of cookies in 1952, marking the highest sales in local Girl Scout history. Just think that in 1952, the Girl Scout Movement was already fifty years old!
The name "Ehawee," meaning "Camp of the Laughing Maidens" in Sioux, was chosen through a competition won by 10-year-old Jacqueline Kramer. This name has indeed proven to be fitting, as the joyful laughter of Girl Scouts continues to resonate through the trails of Ehawee every summer.
Spanning over 200 acres of lush, established land, Camp Ehawee offers various activities and facilities that cater to every camper's interest. The camp property includes:
At Camp Ehawee, there's truly something for everyone. Whether it's learning new skills, making friends, or simply enjoying the great outdoors, each Girl Scout finds their own unique adventure and creates memories that last a lifetime.

If you or someone you know has a Camp Ehawee story to share, we would love to hear from you! Together, let's continue to celebrate and preserve the rich history of this beloved camp for future generations.
